Welcome to my online resource library for sixth grade mathematics!

Teaching math can be difficult... teaching sixth graders can be even more of a challenge! I am always looking for new ways to capture their attention and provide meaningful learning opportunities. Throughout the school year, I have picked up on signals from my students when they are struggling with a concept. I then know they need additional support, and I need to find some alternate resources and methods. I have gathered my resources in this centralized location, and organized them by content strand. Please click on any content strand to be linked to the resources I have gathered for that topic.

You will find that some resources are accompanied by a brief description and the link to the applet. You can either click directly on the website, or the photo for that resource to be directly linked to the website. Other resources are showcased with a detailed analysis of the applet. For these, I used Principles & Standards for School Mathematics (PSSM) as a reference. There is a link within the brief description of certain resources that will direct you to the more detailed analysis.

I have also included a lesson plan that worked well for me. In introducing probability, we began by looking at combinations and then jumped into creating visuals for how to represent the problems. Using the traditional tree diagrams was a bit of a challenge for some students. There were challenges with how to organize the data, and how to make sure all of the combinations were accounted for. I have created a lesson that helps introduce combinations and how data can be organized in lists or with tree diagrams for the future. This lesson serves as a great introduction to the topic, and since it incorporates technology the students were engaged and eager to participate. Please click on the "Lesson Plan" link from the menu on the left.
